Homophobia

Homophobia (from Greek homós: one and the same; phóbos: fear, phobia) is defined as an "irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals", or individuals perceived to be homosexual; it is also defined as "unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality", "fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men", as well as "behavior based on such a feeling". For the European Parliament "homophobia can be defined as an irrational fear of and aversion to homosexuality and to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people based on prejudice and similar to racism, xenophobia, anti-semitism and sexism". It is defined by behavior (such as discrimination) as well as motivation (such as fear, antipathy or contempt).

Yes guys, homophobia is out there alive and well. We face it every day, at work, in school, on the streets, in public places. We face it in different ways, some tragically , some scaring. Luckly in Romania there is a passive agressive type of homophobia (generally speaking). I have not encountered many agressive manifestations of homophobic people in my city...but that doesn't mean that psychologically you are not affected. Freedom is a big word, untouchable in my opinion. And there cannot be a freedom of speech when people around you just cover your voice and pretend they are letting you speak... So i'm thinking we should speak out in every way as long as we do not harm . Every chance of saying what you have to say must be used.

In different ways, in a smaller or bigger way, we can change the world. And I really believe that.

  1. It is indeed alive and well! One of the sources that surprises me the most is from men who previously "got off on" the idea of 2 women together... or even encouraged their wives to be "bi-curious" -- but when it comes to any tollerance for gay or lesbian persons? Nope.

  2. As long as he has the power over her, as long as it's for HIS own pleasure...it is all ok...I think this is the result of bad education, stupidity, and especially poorly informed people..
